What a day! Today was one of those days that nothing seemed to go in my favour. The girls and I have been battling runny noses, stuffy heads and dry coughs collectively for the past week or so. So, I’m not feeling the best and all the other little things that went wrong just added another dimension to the one big thing that went wrong. I’m very disappointed but life moves on. We all have to adjust to these things whether we like it or not. It is one of those things that will be taking me out of my comfort zone again so depending how I look at it- it can be positive I suppose. I’m trying. So, looks as I’m two for two including yesterday’s blog post (regarding the “comfort zone”).
Today is also the beginning of Lent. I remember as a kid doing all kinds of different things for the 40 days. I gave up candy for 40 days, I gave up sweets for 40 days but my favourite was making a jar with 40 things to do. The jar would have 40 slips of paper with something wrote on each one. They could be good deeds, they could have something that I had to give up for the day etc. I remember sitting there trying to come up with things to write down on those little slips. I have to say, for the past few years (and I mean FEW) I have not been doing this. I know, I know. This year is gonna be different. I am on a quest to eat better, healthier, less processed stuff and drop a few (and by that, I mean ALOT) of pounds. I am however a BIG baker. Oh, how I LOVE my sweets. I have decided- I am giving up sweets for 40 days- no cookies, no cakes, no chocolate…. after my day today- it’s a good start to test my willpower and strength!
Next year, I will plan better and be more organized and I would like to do a jar for the girls. Willow won’t really get it by then but Zoë will understand. I did something similar at Christmas with the advent tree (good deeds) and she had fun with it so I think it’ll be good to do.I have found a few links on Pinterest about the Lent Jar (or Sacrifice Jar) whichever you want to call it so, I will post here if anyone wants to see what it’s all about. The first one is the jar with the slips of paper:
and the other link shows you a jar that uses beans (as a countdown to Easter).
Now, too keep my mind off of sweets and snacking I also decided to give myself a little challenge.
Who doesn’t want to get rid of junk and purge. 40 bags in 40 days- perfect!!!! I feel like I do this all the time but this is a good distraction and it’ll get me more ready for spring cleaning… ha- do I actually get that done?! I’m being optimistic and if I do get this done it will give me more time outside… if this dang snow would just leave us!
Tomorrow is a new day. A fresh start. Goodnight all- time to cozy up in bed and read a book. (something I haven’t got to do in a very very long time!)
